Peter Damian Bellis grew up in a household of books. His father was an English professor, so by the time he was sixteen he had read Twain, Hawthorne, Melville, most of Conrad, and also Tolkien, Heinlein, and Asimov. After he graduated from Northwestern University, where he majored in English Literature, he read Faulkner, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Zora Neale Hurston, Morrison, and Walker. He spent his boyhood winters in Minnesota and his boyhood summers in Florida and South Carolina, all of which has given him an appreciation for extremes of temperature. He currently lives and works in Pennsylvania. His daughter lives with her husband in London and his son attends Gettysburg College.
